Walgett Shire Council Appoints Andrew Brown as General Manager
Andrew Brown, who had been serving as Interim General Manager, has been appointed General Manager of Walgett Shire Council for a five-year term following a formal recruitment process.
Andrew Brown has been appointed General Manager of Walgett Shire Council following a formal recruitment process. He served as Interim General Manager from March 2025, and officially commenced the permanent role on 25 August 2025, for a five year term.
Mr Brown brings extensive experience across local government and higher education. He previously held positions including Director of Corporate and Commercial Services at Narrabri Shire Council, senior roles at Armidale Regional Council overseeing governance and IT, and Deputy Chief Operating Officer at the University of New England. He has also lectured in criminology and researched rural governance.
Mr Brown said: "I came to Walgett in late 2024 with no intention of staying. But Walgett changed that. One of the key reasons I chose to stay was the collegiality of the councillors."
Mayor Jasen Ramien said that when the appointment was announced, "every staff member in the office came upstairs and gave a standing ovation," reflecting the respect Mr Brown had earned during his brief interim tenure.
LG Services Group supported the council throughout the process, with Senior Executive Advisors Steven Pinnuck and Terrey Kiss assisting with candidate engagement.
