LG Services Group extends our congratulations to Andrew Brown on his appointment as General Manager of Walgett Shire Council.
Andrew has been serving as Interim General Manager since March 2025, where he quickly demonstrated a practical and people-focused leadership style. His work has already made a strong impression—earning the respect of Councillors, staff and the broader community.
His appointment marks the conclusion of a formal executive recruitment process. Walgett Shire Council has appointed Mr Andrew Brown as its new General Manager, following the conclusion of a formal recruitment process.
Andrew has served as Interim General Manager since March 2025, during which time he has helped to progress a number of key projects and restore organisational momentum. His appointment provides stability and continued direction for Council as it works to deliver essential services and strategic outcomes for the Walgett community.
With extensive experience across local government and the university sector, Andrew previously served as Director of Corporate and Commercial Services at Narrabri Shire Council and held senior roles at Armidale Regional Council, overseeing governance, human resources, and information technology. He has also worked as Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Director of Integrated Services at the University of New England, in addition to lecturing in Criminology and contributing to research in rural governance and local government.
The experience of working with the Walgett community was a key factor in accepting the role Andrew Said:
“I came to Walgett in late 2024 on a three-month locum contract with no intention of staying. But Walgett changed that – I fell for the challenge of the role, but also for the people.
One of the key reasons I chose to stay was the collegiality of the Councillors, this is a Council that works together, respects difference and focuses on outcomes and I want to keep building on the foundations we have set.”
Mayor Jasen Ramien welcomed the appointment, stating:
“Andrew stepped into the interim role fully aware of the challenges Council was facing, but wasted no time rolling up his sleeves and getting on with the job. His leadership over the past few months has been widely recognised both within the organisation and in the community.
“When his permanent appointment was announced, every staff member in the office came upstairs and gave a standing ovation. That kind of response speaks volumes about the respect he’s earned in such a short time. If this is what he can achieve in just a few months, the next five years are looking very promising.
“We’re excited to keep working with Andrew as he leads the next chapter for Council and the Walgett community.”
Andrew will officially take on the role on the 25th August 2025 for a five year term.
