Appointment of New Chief Executive Officer for Glamorgan Spring Bay Council – Mr Greg Tory

Published June 2025

Mr Greg Tory has today been named as Glamorgan Spring Bay Council’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after a national search for the person to lead the organisation into its exciting future.

Mayor Cheryl Arnol is pleased to announce the appointment after an extensive national and international recruitment process conducted over the past four months:

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Greg as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Greg will officially commence in this critical role for our community in early September and has been appointed on a four year performance-based contract.

Greg is looking forward to this great opportunity to work in this pivotal role for our community.
He was interviewed on two occasions by the CEO Recruitment Panel comprising a group of four Councillors (including myself) who were delegated by the full Councillor group to complete this important task on their behalf. On the second occasion, the full Council attended to consider the final candidates for the role.

The opportunity was advertised extensively locally and also across the mainland.
The programme was facilitated by an experienced Local Government specialist and independent consultant company who are based in Sydney and the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and work across a number of Australian States – including Tasmania.

We attracted a very large field of close to 30 candidates, but despite tough opposition from the other high-quality candidates, Greg impressed the CEO Recruitment Panel and then the full Councillor team, with his experienced and calm approach, along with his obvious passion and drive for the Glamorgan Spring Bay community and role having purchased property in our Municipality a few years ago.

Greg has had an impressive local government dedicated career with over 40 years under his belt in the “closest to the community” level of government. He has held the position of General Manager at Lachlan Shire Council in Regional New South Wales for the past seven years.”

Greg had this message for the Glamorgan Spring Bay community and staff of the Council:

“What a wonderful opportunity Glamorgan Spring Bay has offered me – to be your new Council CEO in one of the most beautiful and well known areas of Tasmania!
I am particularly looking forward to building new relationships with our wonderful staff and community members alike. I want to ensure that our people have the resources to do their job effectively and to support their professional goals and aspirations whilst working towards providing the very best service levels to our community.
In this role, I will get out and about in order to meet as many community organisations and members as I can as well as advocating strongly for our Municipality and region into the future.
I also want to hear where our community think that we can improve in relation to our services and processes. They can be assured I will identify priorities and act upon these in order to build an agile organisation for our community as it grows and shifts into the future in partnership with our dedicated Mayor and Councillor team.
On a personal level, I am really looking forward to both working and living in this special place with my partner Kerry and joining (permanently) this incredible community.”
